A Moulton Chapel man crashed his car into the bedroom of a house in Weston Hills while on the run after attempting to steal railway sleepers, a court has heard.
Adam Hamilton, 44, of Thorpe Avenue admitted driving with excess alcohol, failing to stop after a road accident, driving without insurance or a valid test certificate, attempted theft and causing damage, when he appeared at Boston Magistrates Court.
Prosecuting, Ruth Snodin said that on the evening of January 29, Hamilton was stopped while trying to steal a railway sleeper at Flamingo Flowers in Rangell Gate, Spalding and he fled the scene in his Vauxhall Corsa.
She said he hit a parked car in Austendyke Road, Weson Hills and then hit the front wall of a house in the road, the car going straight through the wall and into a bedroom before he left the scene.
She said police found him at his home and, after a positive breath test, he was arrested, giving a reading of 69 microgrammes of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath, almost twice the legal limit of 35.
She said he told the police: “I know what I’ve done. I wanted to get a couple of railway sleepers to build a fence. I was off my head.”
He told them he had panicked and driven off and that he had drunk a full bottle of wine before driving and said he was an alcoholic.
The magistrates adjourned the case for sentence on February 27 and ordered a report from the Probation Service. He was given an interim driving ban until his sentence.
