Spalding junior banger star Lewis Ivatt was in fantastic form at King’s Lynn last Saturday when he scorched to a heat and final double.
The meeting looked like it had got off to the perfect start for Lewis when he took the chequered flag in the opening heat.
However, a check of the lap charts revealed that Ivatt had gone out in the terrible conditions in the early part of the race and he was eventually credited with sixth place – with the victory being awarded to Birmingham’s Joey Holmes Jnr.
It did not take long for Ivatt to bounce back, though, as he came back out for the second heat and took the chequered flag again – on this occasion there was no doubt that it was a bona fide victory and he was left with plenty to celebrate
There was still more celebrations to come in the meeting final, when he managed to take advantage of a mistake by Louie Cottrill on the final lap to hit the front and take a dream heat and final double.
Meanwhile, James Bruce was in action in the 1300 Stock Cars – and showed signs of getting to grips with the formula when he led the final for half the race.
Bruce failed to last the distance but that race saw him look the most confident and assured that he has done since he moved into what is a very competitive formula.
- Long Sutton ace Simon Venni made the long trip up to Cowdenbeath in Scotland to contest the 2L Stock Car National Championship.
It was not the most successful of trips for Venni, as he failed to place in any race on Saturday night.
But he did manage to qualify for the National Championship by the skin of his teeth by grabbing the final qualifying spot in the ‘Last Chance’ race by coming home sixth.
From the very back of the grid, Venni will have been pleased to pass more than half of the grid to come home in 12th place.
He then managed a 13th place finish in the Ray Gunn Tribute Race.
Scotland’s Graeme Shevill took the National Championship on his home track.
Racing returns to King’s Lynn on Saturday, June 16 when the 1500cc Bangers are in action in their East Anglian Team meeting together with the 2L and 1300 Stock Cars.
