Pinchbeck Croquet Club bounced back from the previous week’s defeat at Great Dunham to secured their second golf croquet win of the season, against Downham Market.
The threesome of John Gillett, playing his first match, John Wright and Sam Hales got off to a great start, winning both the doubles and a singles match 7-3 and 7-1 respectively.
The remaining games were all closer with four resulting in 7-6 scorelines. With only one defeat on the day and two wins from three games, Pinchbeck sit top of the East Anglian Federation Handicap League’s northern section.
Tim Barzycki has represented the club at the Regional Club Championship in Watford. He finished sixth but came home in the knowledge that he was the only player to beat the eventual winner.
Barzycki also finished second at the regional final of the All England Handicap.
Ken Knock also came second in the two-day Association Croquet match in Peterborough against Stephen Cornelius, who has been playing for more than 30 years and is the brother of the ladies world champion.
