The leader of South Holland District Council has told the organisers of the Spalding Flower Parade that his ‘door is open’ for working with them for the 2027 event.
Coun Nick Work though said that those involved had previously been ‘reluctant’ to work with the authority.
The Spalding Flower Parade was brought back in 2023 by Steve Timewell and then took place again in 2024.
After he initially cancelled the 2025 event, a group of volunteers came together to take it on and ensure it took place.
However they’ve now cancelled the 2026 parade citing cost issues and instead are concentrating on raising £100,000 for the 2027 event.
The issue of the parade was brought up at last week’s meeting of South Holland District Council.
Responding to a question from Coun James Le Sage, Coun Worth said: “I’ve made it very clear that if they want to talk anything about the flower parade then my door is open.
“It’s a great thing for Spalding.
“I think they’ve made the right decision to do it next year and I’d like to think we’d be at a point to help if they want our help.
“That’s the key; I’m aware they’ve been reluctant to work with councillors in the past. My door is open if they want to.”
Those behind the Spalding Flower Parade are currently looking for people to help build and decorate the floats.

A spokesman said: “Whether you are practical, creative, or just enjoy getting stuck in, we would love to hear from you.”
