Donington A finish 2015 as clear table-toppers in Spalding Snooker League

Donington A will fancy their chances of winning Spalding and District Snooker League’s top prize after rounding off a near-perfect first half of the season in typical style.

The DIvision One leaders end 2015 some 12 points clear at the summit following their 5-1 win at Whittlesey A – meaning they have won 15 of their 16 matches so far.

Their frame wins came from Peter Keal (R14), Nigel Brasier (scr), Sam Major (O28) and Tony Scully (O21), with the latter rounding off the success by making a cool 22 clearance.

Holbeach A are second in the top flight after they also picked up a 5-1 triumph.

Boundary A were their victims, despite Richard Wilson (O7) sinking a 21 break.

Also flying high are Tulips A, after they won 4-2 at Spalding rivals Services A. As ever, Bren Bowman (O63) was on-song for the victors with a 25 clearance.

But it was Martin Anderson’s (O7) win over John Bettinson (scr) which proved key.

The best break in Division One came from the talented Neil Reynolds (O49) as his Donington C side dispatched Pyramid A 4-2. He made a fine 35, while also finishing with a 25 clearance.

Pyramid B lead the way in a very tight Division Two after they put Crowland A to the sword 5-1. Spencer Dawkins (O49) starred with a 35 break for the Bourne boys, while Alfonso Palumbo (O42) added a solid 26.

Third-placed Services C are now level with former leaders Crowland C, but lost their game in hand 5-1 at Consti G.

Consti I also lost ground in the promotion race after they slipped up 4-2 at Services D.

Karen Howlett’s (R21) black-ball victory over John Bellerby (scr) sealed that one for struggling Services.

Down in Division Three, Services F completed a strong first half of the season with a 6-0 win at Donington D to stay clear at the summit.

Gosberton A are seven points behind them in second after they edged out fourth-placed Consti C 4-2.

This one went down to the wire, but Geoff Wand (R21) clinched the victory by knocking off Chris English (R14) in the final frame.

Third place belongs to Long Sutton C after they won 4-2 at Consti A.

Sutton were boosted by a frame win and a super 26 clearance from Simon Lefley (O21) on a rare appearance, while Dan Mayfield (O21) and David Lefley (scr) were their other winners.

The best break at this level came from Nick Keeble (O21), who managed a fine 41 as his Consti J side defeated Whittlesey B 4-2.

Team-mate Stu Davies (O28) also chipped in with a 32 break as he won the pivotal final frame.

Elsewhere, a 35 break from Pete Hodgson-Kerry (O21) couldn’t stop Bourne SC B losing 4-2 a Pyramid E.
