A property developer building in Fleet Hargate has denied claims it’s not abiding by planning rules after concerns were raised.
Resident Peter Coupland says he’s had people in the village complaining about the state of Old Main Road due to construction of nine homes by Belmont Contractors Ltd.
He’s complained to South Holland District Council about it being covered in mud and half-blocked by construction vehicles.
Planning documents passed by South Holland District Council say: “All vehicles are to be inspected by the site manager prior to leaving site to ensure that mud/ debris is not trafficked onto Old Main Road. Where required vehicles are to be jet washed prior to entering the public highway to ensure that mud is not deposited on the road.”
It continues: “No vehicles are to be parked along Old Main Road in the interests of highway safety and residential amenity.”
Mr Coupland, a former councillor who represented the ward on the district council until the last election, said he’s had numerous people talk to him about it from members of the public.
“There were planning conditions put down that aren’t being followed,” Mr Coupland said. “I’ve spoken to the district council but nothing is being done.
“It’s quite a mess. The majority of vehicles shouldn’t even be using Park Road.”
He also stated the situation was particularly bad last week after a lorry fire closed the A17 with traffic from the road diverted through Fleet Hargate.
However, a spokesman for the developer said the company was unaware of any issues and stated Mr Coupland may have been getting confused with other road works that have taken place on the road.
A spokesman for South Holland District Council, declined to comment but said officers would be visiting the site this week.
