Confidence is high at Spalding RFC ahead of their return to action against rivals Market Rasen and Louth at the Memorial Field on Saturday (2.15pm).
Town have just enjoyed a rare weekend off from Midlands One East action, but are gunning to break their duck for the season against one of their fiercest local rivals.
Rock-bottom Spalding go into the clash with an unwanted record of 19 losses from as many league matches this season.
That’s something new head coach Ben Williams is hoping to address before the end of the season – and he’s anticipating a tasty game against a seventh-placed Rasen outfit that beat Town 62-0 in the reverse fixture back in October.
“We’ve had a good week off,” admitted Williams. “We had about 36 lads attend a few positive training sessions – and we’re feeling good.
“A few lads from the Colts joined us and looked strong.
“You never know, a few may get their chance before the end of the season.
“Rasen and Louth is a good one to come back to, especially at home. It’s always an interesting game.
“It’s fair to say that we’re very disappointed with how the match at their place went.
“We’ve had some memorable matches with them over the years and it would be great to get that win.”
Williams must do without the services of George Brown and Luke Scotney, while former skipper Harry Sharman is no longer available after moving on to South Leicester.
There’s no ill feeling from Williams towards his former captain, who he wishes well.
“I’m obviously disappointed that Harry has left,” added Williams. “But he’s not really been available much this season anyway. He’s a good friend and everyone here wishes him all the best.”
