Spalding came out the blocks hard with Stu Cunnington scoring twice in the first ten minutes.
Jacob Baker’s scything run set up Dan Azzopardi to clatter home the third from close range before Cunnington completed his hat-trick.
Will Wright finished off a superb team goal to bring up the nap-hand early in the second-half and man of the match James Grant made it 6-0 before the Nomads had three men sent to the shed. The visitors got a late consolation from a penalty corner.

Spalding’s effort could not be faulted in a tough match at a strong Cambridge side.
They trailled by two at the break and conceded three more in the second half.

After an even first ten minutes, Spalding were undone by two goals.
Spalding won two short corners thanks to good work from man of the match Cheston Palmer but failed to convert either.
They paid the price when Nomads counter attacked to added a third just before the break.
Hopes of a recovery received a blow when Ethan Worrall had to be replaced after taking an accidental stick to his jaw.
Nomads pressed home their advantage and scored two more in quick succession. They then squandered a good chance but added two more late goals.

The home side dominated the game but Spalding came away with a lot of plaudits after working hard against a well organised, skilful side.
Goalkeeper Steve Thurlbourne had an excellent game, making a series of good saves to earn the man of the match award.
