Cricket round-up: Spalding Town and Long Sutton enjoy Premier Division wins

The status quo was maintained at the top of the South Lincs and Border League Premier Division as Skegness and Spalding Town finished with 20 points – as did Sleaford 2nd who stay third.

Three players made half centuries in Spalding’s inning at home to Freiston, while Tim Hughes’ devastating bowling spell for Skegness, which brought him five wickets for just two runs, saw Stamford Town bowled out for just 19.

The highest scoring game of the day was at Long Sutton who made 262 for six, Barry Stanway hitting an unbeaten 64.  In reply Bourne finished on 211, Jon Howard with 74 and Dan Oldfield taking seven for 12.

Lower down the table, newly-promoted Welby Cavaliers are still looking for a win in the top flight after going down by six wickets to a resurgent Billingborough.

The only century of the day came in Division One at Graves Park where Jack Ashton’s 146 off 103 balls took his side to 333 for six, Ashton and Joe Gilbert (76) putting on 209 for the second wicket Timberland were then bowled out for 65.

Market Deeping stay top of the division after beating Heckington by six wickets and Baston’s challenge for honours continued when Adam Hilless took five for 23 to help bowl Spalding 2nd out for 53, a total Baston overtook for the loss of two wickets.  Belton Park stay third following their 10 wicket win over Skegness 2nd.

The closest game in the division came at Moulton Harrox who were bowled out for 130 only for Claypole to fall seven runs short of their target.

Just nine points separate the top five teams in Division Two with Boston 3rd leading the way after victory over third placed Spalding 3rd.   Pinchbeck lie second with Freiston 2nd and Long Sutton 2nd in fourth and fifth.

Billingborough 2nd made it two wins in a row, defeating Uffington by six wickets after Mark Pilgrim had taken five for nine.
