County council say Pinchbeck road on track for Sunday opening

A controversial road closure is set to end on Sunday, the county council has claimed.

Surfleet Road in Pinchbeck is meant to be open on Sunday March 22 after 11 weeks of work to connect a sewer to a new housing development.

After having already been extended for two weeks longer than was planned, there had been fears the closure could be extended after Anglian Water said damage had been caused to the sewer mains on Surfleet Road.

But on Tuesday, Ashley Behan, traffic manager at Lincolnshire County Council said: “The works remain on programme to be completed, and the road is expected to reopen on March 22.

“We apologise for any inconvenience caused and would remind all road users to proceed with caution and take additional care when travelling through this area.”

The news will be a relief for residents as numerous other roads had to be closed due to drivers ignoring the signposted diversion along the A16.

Several businesses have also spoken out about the effect the work by Burmor Construction has had on their trade.

The Voice has contacted Burmor for a comment but have not received a response, nor for a comment on whether its work was the reason Anglian Water had to send tankers to pump sewage from Poacher’s Gate in Pinchbeck following mains damage on Surfleet Road.

An Anglian Water spokesperson said: “Unfortunately a third-party has damaged one of our sewer mains at Surfleet Road, Pinchbeck. Due to the depth of the sewer mains, this is a complex repair and we are working hard to get things back to normal as quickly as possible.

“We are using a tanker at Poacher’s Gate to pump wastewater out of the sewer ready to take to our nearby treatment works to protect homes and the environment.”
