Council ‘keeping up’ with brown bin requests

The roll out of brown bins for those in Spalding who wish to take part in the Garden Waste Scheme is continuing, a meeting has heard, though there continues to be a waiting list.

South Holland District Council has had to slow deliveries of the bins in recent weeks due to pressures over labour shortages, a meeting of the Spalding Town Forum heard last week.

In a response to a question by Coun Angela Newton on the waiting list for the survey, forum chair and the council’s portfolio holder for environmental services, Coun Roger Gambba-Jones said: “We’re keeping up with delivery rates but not quite at the speed we hoped for because now we’ve hit this problem of labour shortage and vehicles and such like.

But we are still keeping up the tempo as best we can.

“We were doing a very intense delivery rate at one stage but then other issues became a priority for us.

“We are seeking to meet the demand. We’ve addressed the initial waiting list so what we’re now getting is new demand.

“We’ll never catch up, which is a good thing in some ways, but it does mean new people coming on to the list are having to wait. We have ordered more bins which means there’s a demand. We’re keeping up with the demand as we see it.”
