Proud head coach Callum Lawson couldn’t hide his delight after seeing a young team from South Lincs Competitive Swimming Club produce stellar showings across the board at a regional event over the weekend.
Following on from the success of the youth group swimmers at the East Midlands Swimming Championships (with Luke Elliott winning the 17 years and over age group) it was the turn of the younger swimmers (swimming in the 11/12 and 13-year-old categories) to perform at their East Midlands Regional event at Corby over the weekend.
The team of Hannah Willis, Molllie Briggs, Dusty Saines, Ellisha Cookson, Aruinija Maliauskaite and Atticus Strickland each performed exceptionally well, recording personal best (PB) times for almost every event.
The leading stars of the day were Cookson and Willis, who broke the respective county age group records for 200m butterfly (Cookson) and 100m and 200m backstroke (Willis).
Given that this was the first time any of these swimmers had competed at regional championships, witnessing such good swimming was hugely rewarding for South Lincs head coach Lawson.
He said: “These championships are a real step up for all of our swimmers and they did themselves and the club proud.
“With such strong swimming the future of the club looks bright.
“It is really rewarding to see the efforts of these children turn into such positive outcomes.”
