A micro-pub based in one of Spalding’s oldest buildings could be named the best real ale pub in Lincolnshire.
The Priors Oven in Sheep Market has been nominated by the Fenland branch committee of CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale).
Chairman Nigel Woodburn said: “It’s about choosing one pub from many excellent ones in our branch area and giving it a bit of recognition.
“The Priors Oven is justifiably popular with CAMRA members and non-CAMRA members alike. It has a strong commitment for real ale, mostly from local brewers.
“It was the first micro-pub in our branch area and this gives it a bit of a special atmosphere.”
The Priors Oven – which opened in December 2013 – usually has six real ales and about five ciders on offer.
Joint landlords Charlie Rawlings and Nathan Marshall are delighted and “humbled” with the nomination.
Charlie added: “We think it’s lovely. We’re only a tiny little pub and we only do it for a bit of fun but we’re grateful that people enjoy it.”
There are five other CAMRA branches in the county and this is the first time Fenland has put forward a pub.
Mr Woodburn said next year branch members would be asked to make nominations and give their reasons.
