Check out your vaccinations

Parents, students and young people are being urged to check their vaccination status after a deadly outbreak of meningitis in Kent.

Two people are reported to have died as a result of contracting Meningitis B and others have received hospital treatment.

An 18-year old and a 21-year-old both died as a result of contracting the illness. A further 11 were treated in hospital while antibiotics were handed out to students in Canterbury on Monday.

“Meningitis can develop suddenly and can be life-threatening, especially in children and young people,” said Dr Becky Barker, of the integrated care board covering Lincolnshire.

“I would urge parents, teenagers and young people to get vaccinated so they don’t rely on luck. The best protection we have is vaccination.”

“It’s safe, effective and offers vital protection against the most serious strains of the disease. Ask your GP abut getting vaccinated.”
