Charity set for big tenth birthday bash

A South Holland based charity that has helped tens of thousands every year is celebrating its tenth birthday.

Tonic Health has grown to include a host of groups and meetings at three locations in Spalding, Holbeach and Boston.

It was founded by Michael Morris in 2016 after his physio business moved into Broadgate House in Westlode Street, Spalding.

It had more space than he needed, so he offered rooms out for community groups.

From seeing what the organisations did for the community he decided to found Tonic Health with the aim ”to provide comprehensive community support to individuals in South Holland, Boston, and the surrounding areas’ and ‘to bridge the significant ‘gaps’ in support whenever necessary’.

“To make it ten years is an amazing achievement,” he said. “What we have managed to do and the number of people we’ve been able to support across all our sites is incredible.

“It’s been an amazing success and I think we should be very proud.

“It never ceases to amaze me where the next project comes from.

“It’s down to what’s needed in the area and that is how we’ve grown.”

In the last financial year more than 30,000 people attended or received help from its groups at its three bases.

That’s up on the 23,000 from the previous year.

Michael cites the 30 staff and 20 plus volunteers as the reason behind the success.

“They’re an amazing team,” he said. “I’m lucky to be a little part of the big picture.

“I couldn’t do it without the dedicated team.”

To mark its tenth birthday, Tonic Health is hosting a ‘Community Get Together Open Day’ on Saturday, June 6 at its Holbeach Hub on Boston Road South from 10.30am to 2.30pm.

The community get together will include a range of activities and taster sessions throughout the day from mosaic making, Zumba, archery, curling, walking netball, design your own mug on the day plus many more.

A spokesman for the group said: “We will also have a variety of different stalls and service stands on the day.

“The whole day is showcasing what The Holbeach Hub do as well as celebrating the ten-year milestone of the charity.”
