A former charity’s day therapy centre in Spalding is to be turned into a house after its services moved into the Johnson Hospital.
Lincolnshire-based hospice St Barnabas previously ran sessions in this part of the county from a bungalow on Clover Way off Woolram Wygate, close to the Co-op store.
But it’s now said the care and support it gives for those with life-limiting conditions would be better delivered elsewhere.
Instead it’s relocated to a ward at the Johnson Hospital.
A spokesman for St Barnabas said: “We have closed the bungalow premises and relocated to a ward within the Johnson Hospital. We are still refining the space, but the clinical teams are working from there now.
“The bungalow wasn’t fit for purpose, and pre-COVID was under-utilised therefore, as part of our estate’s strategy, it was felt the option to work from the hospital would be more beneficial for patients.”
The Clover Way building is to be turned into a home.
St Barnabas applied for change of use planning permission, but South Holland District Council ruled the change could take place through ‘permitted development’.
The planning officer’s report states: “With the site located within a predominantly residential area of Spalding, it is not considered that the amenity of future occupiers would be adversely impacted upon from these above uses.
“This is because there are no general or heavy industry, waste management, storage and distribution located within the immediate area.”
