Champions give Sutton tough debut

South Lincs & Border League champions Long Sutton faced a tough challenge at the higher level when they travelled to reigning Lincolnshire Board champions Lindum and lost their top order cheaply to slip to 27/4 in their opening match of the season.

Tim Norris stuck around to score a patient 30, hitting one of Sutton’s two boundaries, but when he fell at 58 it sparked the loss of five wickets and they limped to 78 all out in the 36th over with all six home bowlers taking wickets.
Barry Stanway had Lindum captain Will Taylor out lbw for two but he was the only home wicket to fall as they reached 80/1 to pass their target in the 14th over.
Six of Spalding’s seven bowlers claimed at least one wicket but visitors Woodhall Spa spread their scoring throughout their innings to post 239/9 from their 50 overs.
Pick of the Spalding bowling was Kishan Arawwawala with 3-31, while Keyan Gace took two wickets for 22.
Opener Gace then held the reply together with seven 4s and a 6 in his 57 but when he was stumped on 93/6, the remaining four wickets fell for the addition of only 17 more runs. Only two other batsmen reached double figures in a total of 110.
