Spalding Cemetery has been closed to the public.
South Holland District Council announced the move last week.
In a statement the council said: “In line with emergency legislation to stop the spread of COVID-19, all cemeteries nationwide are now closed to members of the public and contractors.
“Access is only allowed for funeral corteges.”
The council also quotes the new Health Protection (Coronavirus Restrictions) legislation to back up the decision.
The move to close the grounds disappointed Coun Angela Newton.
She said: “If we have to do it, then so be it, but I felt often people on their own go down to the cemetery and take flowers, regularly, often find a lot of solace by going.
“I suspect many people will find it hard to understand with the many acres there are at Spalding, why it has had to close.”
