Family firm thanks fire brigade

A family flower growers has praised Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue for stopping a blaze destroying its business.

Smith and Musson on Gipsy Lane in Gedney suffered a large fire in one of its buildings at around 5.30pm on Thursday which destroyed an unknown amount of stock and equipment.

But those behind the family-run company are full of praise for the five fire crews who attended and stopped the fire spreading elsewhere and the company from losing more stock.

Director Jo Musson, said: “Nobody was hurt which is the main thing.

“The fire service were amazing and on the scene in eight minutes.

“You don’t appreciate them until you need them but they stopped the fire from spreading.

“We’re a family business and these are difficult and scary times but we’re able to keep going.”

Lincolnshire Fire and Rescue said that 25 metres of the building was damaged, as was a “large quantity of plastic flower trays, compost, pallets and machinery” while remaining contents suffered “severe” smoke damage.

A Fire and Rescue spokesman said: “The fire was extinguished using three main jets, four breathing apparatus and two thermal imaging cameras.”

Investigations into the cause of the fire are ongoing.
