Two work colleagues have raised more than £600 for charity after climbing to the summit of Ben Nevis.
Ashwood Homes contracts manager Pete Whalley and construction manager Mark Forbes decided to tackle the highest mountain in the British Isles as a personal challenge and for fun, but friends and colleagues got behind their efforts and donated cash for Macmillan Cancer Support through a JustGiving page set up in secret by Pete’s wife Leanne.
On the JustGiving page Leanne said: “Pete and Mark have worked together for a number of years (more than they care to share) and following the restrictions and struggles across the nation over the past couple of years, the dynamic duo wanted to take on a challenge together.
“Neither of them had considered doing this for charity and to have any recognition whatsoever. …. It was something for themselves.
“But, my mother passed away from cancer two years ago and Pete’s step dad passed away with cancer the following year in 2021.
“Cancer affects so many families and Macmillan helps those families so much, so I just wanted to raise some awareness and a few pennies whilst they are away and maybe surprise them knowing they have raised a few pounds along the way.”
The total raised so far now stands at more than £600.
Ashley King, chairman of Ashwood Homes, said: “We are very proud of Mark and Pete’s efforts and their determination to climb Ben Nevis. It is a credit to them that they have also managed to raise such a good sum of money for a worthy cause.”
