Burton bags a victory on a tough day for fishing at Tydd Gote Angling Club

The first Tydd Gote Angling Club match of the new season on the North Level at Main Road was a dour affair with the drain out of sorts after days of heavy rain.

With the water being pumped, there was a steady flow all day with levels dropping by several inches over the five hours.

But that didn’t deter feeder supremo Colin Burton on peg 19 who enticed a 4lb 12oz bream to his worm hookbait for a comfortable win.

Archie Greenwood and Andrew Kilby had a real fish for fish battle on pegs 16 and 17 with Greenwood coming out on top with 2lb 1oz of roach that included a couple of net fish.

Kilby took third spot with 1lb 13oz, rueing the loss of a last minute 6oz roach that would have given him the runners up berth. Pete Emery, on peg 28 was fourth with 15oz with over half of that made up of a single perch.

  • Sunday saw the return of the river fishing season for Holbeach and District Angling Club.

Amid a field of 19 excited members, first place went to Andy Wilson with 7lb 8oz.

He found a nice bream in the closing stages of the match to seal his success.

Second place went the way of Gary Boxhall, who captured a big 2lb carp to boost his net to 6lb 8oz.

In third position was Andy Goodger, who had a nice net of silvers for 5lb 3oz.

This Sunday’s match will be held at Leedsgate Bridge, with new faces always welcome to join in with the action.
