The new season finally kicked in to gear at Spalding Golf Club on Saturday with the first competition of the year – and it was Bryn Chappell who made a flying start.
Contested by 134 men’s section members, only ten golfers came in below the standard scratch of 74 in the March Medal at the Surfleet course.
Chappell (21 handicap) was the winner on the day with a nett 69, ahead of Steve Hodgson (14) with a nett 70. Both players received a handicap cut after their excellent displays.
Other scores: 71 – Hugo Kedzlie (1), Keith Hearne (2); 72 – Stuart East (13), Neil Clarke (15); 73 – Martin Baker (16), Richard Laud (6), John Spencer (10); 74 – Dick Parker (11).
Kedzlie’s 72 was the lowest gross of the day, a good start to the season for the area’s brightest young golfing talent.
