Spalding Sharks have endured mixed fortunes in their two most recent East Midlands Water Polo League matches.
The Sharks enjoyed a fine success at Milton Keynes, winning 11-6 against their ‘A’ team last week.
The Sharks took the lead in the third minute, courtesy of Tim Shields.
That was quickly followed by a goal from Jordan Templer, but two strikes from the home side in the final two minutes of the first quarter levelled the match at 2-2.
Milton Keynes started the second quarter with two more quick goals, but a brilliant hat-trick from John James ensured the Sharks led 5-4 at half time.
Hosts MK drew level soon after the start of the third quarter, only for two more goals from hot-shot James put the Sharks back ahead.
The topsy-turvy nature of the game continued as the home side quickly scored again, before one goal apiece from Gareth Lord and Tim Shields gave Spalding some breathing space at 9-6.
The final quarter was very tight and the Sharks, in particular goalkeeper Jon Davis, defended very well to prevent MK adding to their score.
Another brace of goals from Shields then secured the Sharks the win.
However, the Sharks were unlucky to come away with a 9-6 loss at Kettering in a game played a few days earlier.
Despite two goals from captain Steve Rogers, the Sharks were 3-2 down at the end of the first quarter.
The next two quarters saw Kettering increase their lead to 7-4, with both Sharks goals being scored by Shields.
The final quarter was evenly matched with two goals apiece, the Sharks goalscorers were Rogers and one from Gareth Lord.
Constant attacking from Sharks in the last two minutes of the match couldn’t reduce the deficit before the final whistle.
