Brilliant Bowser bosses Spalding Cycling Club’s latest ten-mile time trial

Andy Bowser set the pace at round three of Spalding Cycling Club’s ten-mile time trial league.

Favourable wind for the early starters made a personal best (PB) ride possible for some on the night, but a change of wind direction shaved the speed off slightly for a few of the later starters.

Bowser put in the only sub-25 minute ride of the evening with 24.28mins – although that was more than 35 seconds slower than his 2015 result.

Equalling his round one time of 25.24mins, Ross McGivern took a fine second place while Mark Hills finished 3rd with 25.50mins. That was 30 seconds off his PB time for the distance set at round two.

In the ladies’ competition, Natasha Tooley maintained her position at the top of the leader board by completing the course in 28.20mins.

The ever-consistent Sarah Bentley was second in 30.06mins, while Clare Wookey, in a welcome return to the Tuesday league, posted 30.59mins.

The ever-improving Nicole Flatters put in yet another PB ride to cross the line with 33.27mins in 18th place overall.

She was one place behind under-16 Sophie Wright – ensuring the same finishing order for all of the events held so far this season, although Flatters is slowly reducing the time gap on each ride.

Wright posted a time of 32.23mins, a full 59 seconds quicker than her 2015 ride time. Completing the ladies’ results was Katie Wright, who improved by ten seconds over her round two time, crossing the line with 36.38mins.

Over a minute quicker than in 2015, Will Gurney was again top under-16 finisher with his 29.32mins while Matt Hull just sneaked in with 29.57mins to take second spot.

An improvement of 58 seconds over his round one and PB time of 31.42mins earned a well-deserved third place for Tom Wright as he finished with 30.44mins.

Ed Gurney pulled a similar result out of his ride, recording 36.12mins. That was 1.31mins quicker than in round two.

Other Spalding CC times: Simon Wright 26.49mins; Gary Bentley 28.13mins; Richard Flatters 28.17mins; Chris Bettinson 28.39mins; Barry Drew 29.02mns; David Thornley 29.11mins; Paul
