A Spalding walkway remains closed three years after work started on the town’s relief road, and it’s set to stay shut to the end of this year.
Two Plank Bridge closed in early 2021 ahead of work starting on the new road, in 2022.
It was to be closed for two years, but the whole scheme has been delayed and despite a ‘July 2024’ re-opening date online, it still remains closed.
An update from Lincolnshire County Council on work being carried out on the Western Relief Road says the bridge is still not open.
“There are several months until completion, the project has now passed some of the more complex engineering challenges. The remaining works include surfacing of the bridge deck, completion of the western junction and installing Two Plank Bridge.”
The three middle sections of the road are unlikely to be funded until at least 2030.
A £27.8m county council budget was pulled last February with hopes it might be reinstated after 2030.
Over the last three months all the concrete works on the bridge parapets has been completed alongside a range of other engineering work.
During the next three months the plans includes completing surfacing, installing rail bridge signage, landscaping and lay white lines.
A county council spokesman said Two Plank Bridge would be one of the last pieces to be completed after the roadway was done.
“It will be the end of the year before the bridge is open again,” he said.
