Pensioner from Spalding area killed in A16 accident at Crowland

UPDATE: Thursday (9am): The person killed in the accident on the A16 in Crowland on Wednesday was an 81-year-old woman from the Spalding area.

Police said: “She was a passenger in a blue Ford Mondeo travelling north when it was involved in a collision with a blue BMW 730 travelling in the opposite direction around 3pm on Wednesday. Sadly, she was pronounced dead at the scene.

“Her 83-year-old husband, who was driving the car, was airlifted to Addenbrookes Hospital in Cambridge with serious injuries. His condition is stable.

“The driver of the BMW, a local man in his 50s, was treated at Peterborough hospital for less serious injuries and discharged the same day.

“The collision also involved a black Peugeot 207, which was stationary at a junction at the time. The female driver of the Peugeot was checked over at Pilgrim Hospital.”

Police are appealing for further witnesses to the incident, or who saw either the Mondeo or BMW prior to the collision.

UPDATE (Wednesday 4pm): Police have confirmed the accident is fatal.

One person has died and three others were injured.

Wednesday 3.40pm: Motorists are being asked to avoid the area around the A16 at Crowland due to a serious accident.

The road has been closed and is likely to remain so for some hours. It’s believed at least one air ambulance is at the scene near the junction with Peterborough Road.

Police said: “The incident happened around 3pm this afternoon (Wednesday) at the B1166 junction with the A16 Crowland bypass. The collision involves at least two cars.”
