Spalding bowler Martin Spencer was part of the England team that beat Wales 7-4 in a Mixed International Test match.
Spencer played in the triples event with Laura Holden and Perry Martin, but they lost a close match 0.5-1.5.
He narrowly lost out in the mixed pairs too, this time with Janice Gower as England ended day one 2-3 behind.
Day two was much more fruitful for the hosts, as they took five out of the six singles matches, with Spencer winning the final match of the series.
- Colin Wilson, from Spalding Indoor Bowls Club, was invited to umpire at the Men’s International Test match between England and Scotland this week.
The event comprised of two triples and three pairs matches on the first day (today, Wednesday), then six singles games on the second day (Thursday).
The event is held at the New Earswick club in York and is televised on ITV4.
Six of the top eight players in the world were due to take part, including Alex Marshall and Paul Foster for Scotland and Greg Harlow and Nick Brett for England.
This weekend he’ll travel to Bristol for the under-18 BIBC International Series.
The quarter and semi-finals of the singles, pairs, triples and fours will be played on the first day, with the finals of each on the following day.
The club congratulates Colin on his achievement and wish him all the best in the two prestigious events.
- Spalding Indoor Bowls Club’s ladies’ section have made a generous donation to the Butterfly Hospice after raising more than £1,000 through a string of events.
The money was raised by cake and book sales, raffles and other events.
The ladies recently presented a cheque for £1,183 to Dennis Bell, of the Butterfly Hospice.
- Spalding IBC’s friendly team romped to a big victory in their latest fixture at Sleaford.
In a game played on Friday, Spalding cruised to a massive 116-55 triumph, winning on five rinks.
The best of those rink triumphs came from I Tyler, A Garrett, N Putrell and I Stafford.
