Boss backs Spalding United to shine in tough-lookig Kidsgrove Athletic contest

This Saturday serves up another tough test for Spalding United in the BetVictor NPL South East Division – but interim boss Lewis Thorogood is confident that his side are more than up for the challenge.

The ninth-placed Tulips make the trip to Kidsgrove Athletic on Saturday (3pm), a side that are just one point behind them with five games in hand.

Both sides have aspirations to reach the play-offs and Thorogood reckons Kidsgrove are every bit as good as the Belper Town side his Tulips drew 2-2 with last weekend.

“I think we probably deserved all three points against Belper last weekend,” said the caretaker boss. “We went toe-to-toe with one of the best teams in the league and they seemed to run out of ideas a little.

“But they are a physical side and they exploited that in the end. In some regards, Kidsgrove are very similar.

“They have a young and talented squad that is developing all the time – and in Anthony Malbon have one of the best strikers in the league.

“It’s a difficult fixture, but we’ve consistently proved that we perform well against the better sides.

“Our form against the bottom teams hasn’t been as good, but I know we’ll be 100 per cent up for Kidsgrove. Both sides are looking to push on towards the play-offs and it should be a good game.”

Thorogood expects to make a few changes to his squad ahead of the clash, which could see players leave the squad and others arrive.
