Creating boredom packs to help vulnerable adults and handing out more fruit and veg are among the reasons a group helping others in Spalding and Pinchbeck are asking for donations.
Since the current coronavirus outbreak, the Spalding and Pinchbeck COVID Kindness team has been producing packs to help others including delivering fresh food and things to keep children entertained.
It has set up a Crowdfunder to help continue that ensuring it’s able to give out fresh food outside of the generous donations it’s received from local businesses.
And it’s also looking to expand out and provide ‘boredom packs’ for potentially vulnerable adults.
That’s the brainchild of Harry Higgins who has been volunteering with the group, phoning people who may be feeling isolated.
“A few of the people I’d spoken to said they didn’t really have much to do while they were isolating,” the bar manager said. “And I just had a bit of inspiration that if we’re doing boredom packs for kids, why not for adults too?
“It’s particularly aimed at the most vulnerable.
“So far for the packs we’ve been donated some gardening equipment from Poundstretcher, lots of adult colouring books, word searches and several books.
“Ideally we’d like things such as puzzles.”
Harry says there’s already been a lot of demand and that the group hopes to create between 70 and 100 packs as the lockdown period continues.
He’s set up the Crowdfunder UK page so all of the money donated goes to the charity, rather than to the collecting website.
However with that website a deadline has to be set, so any donations need to be in by 2.30pm on Friday, May 13.
You can donate here or visit the Spalding COVID Kindness Team’s page on Facebook for more information.
Harry continued: “It’s just to help others and some money will also go towards paying for more fruit and veg to be delivered with the packs.”
