Billiards round-up: Holbeach A edge out leaders Pyramid A in top-of-the-table clash

The top two in the Spalding and District Billiards League clashed on Monday night – and it was second-placed Holbeach A who got the better of leaders Pyramid A.

John Clapton (R90) got the Bourne side off to a flying start by winning the first frame, but Holbeach turned it around and took the final two frames through Ben Harding (R30) and Colin Dodd (O10).

They only gained one point on the leaders, though, with the aggregate scores ensuring their margin of victory was 4-3.

Dodd was the star of the show with breaks of 37, 23 and 21.

The big winners of the week were Gosberton B, who thrashed Crowland 7-0.

James Waterfall (R50), Marcus Pell (O20) and Shane White (O30) all won their frames, with the latter making breaks of 27 and 26.

Elsewhere, Gosberton picked up a 5-2 triumph at Long Sutton despite breaks of 35 and 26 from Mick Cooper (O190).

It was also 5-2 as Consti B won their all-club affair against Consti A.

Steve Spencer (R110) settled the contest in the final frame, but Mick Johnson (O170) starred with breaks of 38 and 26 (twice).

Meanwhile, Holbeach B edged a tight tussle at Donington 4-3.

Denis Hix (R80) and Neil Harvey (R50) were the frame winners for Holbeach, but Ben Wrigglesworth (R50) convincingly took the final frame to tip the aggregate score in Donington’s favour as he made a 29 break.
