Billiards round-up: Donington take chance to close gap on leaders Long Sutton

With Spalding and District Billiards League leaders Long Sutton not in action on Monday night, title rivals Donington cranked up the pressure on them.

Second-placed Donington romped to a maximum 7-0 success at Gosberton A, with Jim Thompson (R40), Ben Wrigglesworth (R60) and Matt Turner (R50) all on winning form.

Turner chipped in with a 20 break for the winners, who are now just 3.5 points behind the table-toppers.

Also picking up a whitewash 7-0 success were Holbeach C, who put third-placed Consti B to the sword in what was a very emphatic display.

Despite cue ace Mick Johnson (O180) making a 48 break in frame one, Colin Dodd (R70) made a 23 break en-route to beating him 200-0. James Glover (R100) and Ben Harding (R80) followed that up with frame wins to seal a 600-292 aggregate win.

Harding also added a cool 26 break.

Elsewhere, Consti C picked up a 5-2 triumph against basement boys Pyramid A.

Stu Davies (R30) and Alan Hansard (R70) made breaks of 25 and 22 respectively for Consti in that one.

Also winning 5-2 were Holbeach B, who picked off hosts Pyramid B 5-2. Despite breaks of 35 and 30 from Martin O’Connor (scr), it was frame wins from Nigel Ward (R100) and Tony Blanchard (R60) which were key.
