Billiards round-up: Dodd on top form as seven-up Holbeach A seal league title

Long-term leaders Holbeach A clinched the Spalding and District Billiards League title in style on Monday night.

They romped to a super 7-0 success at Gosberton A to take an unassailable advantage at the summit, with games running out.

Colin Dodd (O10) was the star of the show for the new champions, making three impressive breaks as he defeated Peter Waterfall (R110).

His best effort was a super 63, while he also knocked in a 39 and a 22.

James Glover (R80) and Ben Harding (R30) rounded off the whitewash win with narrow victories of their own.

Elsewhere, Pyramid B picked up a 5-2 home success over Consti B.

Maurice Phillipson’s (R70) 20 break helped him secure the first frame for the Bourne side, before Martin O’Connor claimed the scalp of Mick Johnson (O170) – despite the cue ace making breaks of 33, 27 and 24.

Jason Rose (R40) sank a 20 break as he took the final frame for Consti B’s two points.

The score was also 5-2 as Holbeach B got the better of Gosberton B.

Hosts Holbeach got off to a strong start with Denis Hix (R80) taking frame one against Marcus Pell (O20), who bagged breaks of 22 and 20.

That theme continued in frame two, as Neil Harvey (R50) got the better of Shane White (O30) despite the latter reeling off scores of 24 and 20.

James Waterfall (R50) made a 26 break as he beat Tony Blachard (R50) in the final frame.
