Billiards round-up: Cooper inspires Long Sutton’s success, Childs shines again

Long Sutton were on sparkling form in the Spalding and District Billiards League on Monday night.

They whitewashed visitors Consti B 7-0 in a game when all three of their players posted fine breaks.

Mick Cooper (O190) shone with scores of 65, 44, 39 and an unfinished 23, while Wayne Dent (R30) made a 31 and John Dawson (R30) added a cool 25.

Also winning well were table-toppers Holbeach A, who put hosts Pyramid B to the sword 5-2.

Frame wins from James Glover (R80) and Colin Dodd (O10) got the job done, with the latter making a 32 break.

Darrell Read’s (R30) 36 break was in vain for the Bourne boys.

Second-placed Pyramid A lost more ground in the race for the title as they slipped up 5-2 at Holbeach B.

Tony Blanchard (R50) settled that clash in the final frame, while Neil Harvey (R50) sank a 20 break for the victors.

Elsewhere, Rob Childs was on typically fine form – but his Crowland A side went down 5-2 at Gosberton A.

He racked up breaks of 61, 56, 48, 35 and 32 in a losing effort against Jamie Mumby (R80), setting the stage for Malc Dennis (R110) to settle the contest in Gosberton’s favour.

Also on winning form were Donington, who knocked off their visitors Gosberton B 5-2.

Tony Scully (R50), who won the opening frame, starred with a 27 break for the hosts.
