Bid to build bungalows refused

A bid to build eight bungalows on land classed as outside of Donington has been finally refused five years after the application was submitted.

A meeting of South Holland District Council’s Planning Committee was told that when the application off Northorpe Road first came before them in November 2019, they’d discussed going against the planning officer’s recommendation of refusal and were looking to grant the application.
However it was deferred after a member of the committee had left part of the meeting relating to its discussion.
It was back on the agenda for the December 2019 meeting, but withdrawn by the applicant after legal discussions by both the council and the applicant Mr T Hart.
The council’s legal representative Lisa Davies told last week’s meeting the authority had initially said it had not received correspondence from the applicant, though it now accepted it had.
Councillors said accepting the proposal had been considered previously as there had been claims of noise from unlawful businesses on the site and housing might make it more tidy.
But the committee unanimously went with the officer’s recommendation to refuse on the grounds it was mostly situated outside the borders of Donington.
They also argued against the plan for the estate being a private drive with a single collection point for litter by the roadside.
“Developers need to understand we don’t like waste collection points,” Coun Paul Redgate said.
“Once again someone is trying to fit a development of land where it just doesn’t fit.”
