Barry’s brilliant 6-26 is in vain for Long Sutton as Boro’ edge low-scoring contest

Barry Stanway took 6-26 to blow away Billingborough’s top order in the South Lincs and Border League on Saturday – but still finished on the losing side.

That’s because he and his Long Sutton team-mates were unable to chase down Boro’s 94 at Paradise Field, having been bowled out for just 70 in 24.1 overs.

Pace ace Stanway was in sensational form with the ball, getting rid of all of the top six – including Shaun Brown, James Rollinson, Ryan Simpkins and Aaron Pullum for ducks.

Rob Simpson also chipped in with 3-12 to polish off the tail, while Jake Burton (1-24) got the other wicket. In the end, the 26 scored by opener Mike Stanley was the best Boro’ effort in their 34.3 over score of 94.

Unfortunately for Sutton, Brown was also in top form for the visitors as they hit back with the ball.

Having already lost Jamie Taylor for a golden duck and Chris Booth for 2, Brown (5-22) took the prized wicket of skipper Phil Barnes (9). He also dismissed Raj Sangha (2), Aaron John (5), Stanway (14) and Matt Bull (4), while Pullum (3-26) helped complete the job.

The defeat leaves Sutton three points clear of the drop zone, but they do have games in hand.

  • Spalding Town 3rd shaded a tight derby with Long Sutton 2nd by 28 runs at the Memorial Field on Saturday.

Batting first, hosts Town scored 151-9 in the SLBL Division Two clash. It was a team effort, with knocks from Steve Rushworth (23), Chris Green (21) and Richard Gilbert (16) key.

Andrew Wright (47) and James Stewart (25) scored well in Sutton’s reply, but Eddie Seymour (4-29) and Carl Lamming (2-33) ensured they were all out for 123 in the 44th over.
