Ayscoughfee aviary: ‘Make parents of child who fell through roof pay’

Calls have been made for the parents of a child who fell through the aviary roof at Ayscoughfee Gardens in Spalding to pay towards the repairs.

The roof replacement this week cost £4,890 and some readers of The Voice insisted that taxpayers should not stand the cost.

A South Holland District Council spokesman said: “The aviary roof would have been replaced in due course as part of routine maintenance at the site. However, following the incident, we have taken the decision to bring this work forward.

“The new roof will be constructed from timber with profiled sheeting.  It is being funded from our general budget.”
