Nene Valley Harriers enjoyed a convincing win at their second East Anglian League match of the season when they fielded a strong team to beat their nearest competitors by over 100 points at Luton, writes Ruth Jones.
It puts Harriers in a strong position going into the next fixture at Ipswich on July 6.
Impressively, a large number of the winning senior men’s team was made up of athletes who had competed in the previous day’s demanding British League match at Peterborough.
Senior men David Bush and Adam Fidgett both excelled in multiple events, placing well in the javelin, discus, shot put, triple jump, high jump and 110m hurdles between them to gain valuable points for the Harriers.
Sixteen-year-old Isaac Huskisson also had an excellent day in the field, securing two personal best throws in the hammer throw and javelin, hurling the implements to distances of 42.74m and 37.71m respectively.
International veteran GB athlete Andrea Jenkins was in typically dominant form alongside clubmate Kelly Lawrence, with Jenkins easily winning the A string discus, shot put and hammer throw before taking the B string javelin competition behind team mate Elle-Mae Stokes, who won the A javelin in 28.71m.
Lawrence won the B discus and placed an excellent second in the B discus. Youngster Alison Church also threw well, winning the U17 javelin in an impressive 25.05m, while sister Lydia won the U15 hammer, with both siblings competing in several other events to help the team take the victory.
English Schools Championships qualifier Tierney Augustine had a storming performance to win the U15 shot put in 10.39m, while fellow qualifier Rob Shaw easily took the U17 event with a fantastic throw of 13.85m.
Fellow EAL competitors Huskisson, multi-eventer Emma Hornsby and hammer thrower Rosie Fresen have also all qualified, along with club mates Lily Hughes and Alex Hampson in the sprints and 1500m respectively.
