There is a remembrance service and parade in Donington on Sunday (September 27).
The 1st Air Troop Royal Engineers the Parachute Regiment World War Two veterans will be parading at 10am in Market Place, followed by a 10.30am service at St Mary and The Holy Rood Church and the laying of wreaths at the Arnhem Oak Memorial. Eveyone is very welcome to attend.
This is a 71st anniversary commemoration for the 143 men who were based in Donington for several months before leaving for Arnhem on September 17, 1944.
At the end of the battle for the bridge at Arnhem of the 143 men only 13 were evacuated back to England with more than 20 killed in action and more than 100 missing or prisoners of war.
