Archie enjoys big win as low water levels make latest Tydd Gote Angling Club match a testing one

With the Environment Agency ensuring water levels in the North Level are kept low to avoid any flooding, the contestants at the Tydd Gote Angling Club Sunday club match at Main Road were once again fishing below the platforms.

The fish were also shoaled up in the early number pegs, which made it a match of two halves.

Archie Greenwood was on the first peg above the bridge and had a bite most casts from roach, skimmers, perch and rudd on pinkie over groundbait to easily take a deserved win with 14lb 2oz.

Andrew Kilby was on peg four and had some better quality fish in his runners-up weight of 9lb 10oz, with Steve Fox taking third place with a pinkie caught bag of roach and skimmers for 6lb 11oz.

Dave Simmonds was on peg three and took fourth place with a pike among a 5lb 14oz net of roach and skimmers.

But all the anglers below peg four struggled for even solitary fish.

Result: Wednesday Open (at Main Road): 1st Sammy McSpadden 20lb 4oz; 2nd Don Green 18lb 7oz; 3rd Pete Emery 14lb 10oz.
