Appeal over man who escaped jail and is thought to have been spotted in Spalding

Police have issued an appeal to find a man who has escaped from a Suffolk prison and who may be in Spalding.

South Holland Police this evening (Tuesday, July 25) appealed for information on finding Morgan Smyth who has absconded from Hollesley Bay prison.

The statement reads: “Have you seen Morgan Smyth who has absconded from #HollesleyBay prison in Suffolk? We believe he has been sighted in the Spalding area of Lincolnshire and would ask anyone who sees him to call 101 immediately. Always call 999 in an emergency.”

Suffolk Police said: “Morgan Smyth (24) was reported to police as missing at 12.45pm on (Thursday May 11) after last been seen at 10am today.

“He is described as of a slim build, six foot three inches tall (1m 93cm) , with black hair and brown eyes and has a goatee beard and maybe wearing a light blue coat.

“He is currently serving a three year sentence for possession of a knife, blade or sharp pointed article; possession an offensive weapon in a public place; threatening a person with a blade / sharply pointed article in a public place and harassment.

“Enquires are on-going to locate him and anyone who has seen him or seen a male matching the description given or knows of his whereabouts should not approach him but should contact Suffolk Police, quoting CAD number 198 of 11 May 2023.”

Earlier today Lincolnshire Police told The Voice they were searching for a wanted person around the Low Fulney Bridge in Spalding, though they have not confirmed its linked to the hunt for Smyth.
