Angels big attraction at church

A chance to see angels showcased on national TV proved a hit for a Gosberton Clough church.

St Gilbert & St Hugh’s Church held an open day on Saturday, August 21 to allow people to see the historic angels brought back into the building after being repaired by the BBC show The Repair Shop.

They were carved by Belgian refugees in 1916 and brought back to their former glory by experts on the show.

The church put on a host of activities throughout the day and were delighted to see so many faces.

A spokesman for the church said: “We would like to thank everyone who came.

“We were overwhelmed with the number of visitors and support shown creating such a happy community atmosphere.

“As well as the opportunity to look around and learn the history about our beautiful church and the angels, visitors enjoyed lots of family angel fun – angel arts and crafts, an angel hunt in the garden, a quiz, and other games.

“We were even entertained by Pavanotti (or Pavanotti aka Jeff Woods) singing in the church.

“A big thank you to all of the helpers including flower arrangers, cake bakers and stall holders.”
