An East Midlands in Bloom judge has visited Spalding for the first time in years, with the chance of an award in a new category this year.
An entry for the town itself had been mooted, but time restraints mean it wasn’t possible this year.
The Friends of Spalding Station, which looks after the gardens and upkeep of the town building were involved in discussions, and decided to enter their site in the new category for Railway Station/Transport Hub, without the rest of the town.
Recently a judge from East Midlands in Bloom visited and the results will be revealed in Derbyshire on Wednesday, September 23.
“It was great and exciting to welcome one of the judges to the station,” said Jan Whitbourn, one of the Friends of Spalding Station.
“As volunteers we work really hard to make it look attractive,” she said. “A lot of hours go into each part and we’ve had lots of groups help us too including the Long Sutton Men’s Shed.
“We get lots of great comments from those passing by and the train drivers all wave as they go past.
“I think the lovely judge that attended was very impressed with what he saw.”
Julie Walker, secretary of East Midlands In Bloom, told The Voice that it had received ten entries for the new Railway Station/Transport Hubs category.

“Each entrant will receive a certificate marking their achievement, based on the RHS Medal system of Gold, Silver Gilt, Silver and Bronze.
