A Long Sutton woman is to follow her career dream and be a children’s nurse after passing her GCSEs through Boston College.
Amy Male was incredibly happy with a grade seven in English and a grade five in Maths after taking on the courses.
She’s now set to head to university.
She said, “After spending many years raising my children I was encouraged by my family to follow my career dream to be a children’s nurse.
“I initially studied the functional skills ‘fast track’ summer course and realised that I wanted to go further.
“I took my GCSE exams whilst recovering from a major operation, and I am immensely proud of my grades that have secured my place at university.”
A spokesman for Boston College, said: “For many of those students celebrating, these formal examinations were the first they have sat after their GCSEs at school were affected during the pandemic.
“The hard work and determination paid off with those students who did not achieve the grades at secondary school, now being able to progress onto their next steps within education or the workplace.”
Among the college’s other students were Millie Jones, who after achieving a grade four at school decided to retake her English GCSE to allow her to progress on to the Level Three Travel and Tourism course at the college, with the aim to go to university to become a flight attendant.
After collecting her results Millie said: “I needed a grade five and I achieved a six, so I’m very happy. After missing out on taking my GCSEs at school due to the pandemic, I was nervous to sit exams for the first time but the support at college was really good.”
Heather Marks, Boston College Vice Principal: Curriculum and Quality said, “Today’s results are
testament to the hard work of our students, support from parents and carers, and the dedication of
our staff. Everyone involved should be incredibly proud of their accomplishments.”
