Ace Reidy races to big new Peterborough Nene Valley club record at

Sean Reidy had a successful weekend in the England Athletics Combined Events Championship as he claimed a new Peterborough Nene Valley AC club record en-route to finishing in 19th position.

The 38-year-old’s haul of 4,017 points included a personal best (PB) of 9.21m in the shot and 7.82 over 60m.

“The whole thing was two months in the planning, and for once it all fell into place.” said a delighted Reidy.

“I worked out I had to get under 2.47 for the last event, the 1,000m, which would normally not be a problem, but I was fatigued after hitting all six events well and was flagging on lap three.

“Luckily I got challenged by a lad from Doncaster and was overtaken on on lap four.

“The sprint for the win got me home in 2.46.68mins.”

  • Former Nene Valley ace James McCrae won the Sublime Peterborough 10k in Ferry Meadows on New Year’s Eve.

Sheffield based McCrae, who now races for Hallamshire AC, crossed the line in a speedy 31.24.3mins.

Isaac Ellard, formerly of Eye, finished as runner up in 32.08.7mins, while Helpston’s Steve Robinson came in fifth with a 34.03.6mins clocking.

Peterborough Nene Valley’s James Sadlier crossed the line seventh in 34.18.5mins.

Sarah Caskey, also of PNVAC, was the first local lady home, finishing fourth in 40.47.4mins.

Werrington’s Sadie Bloor won the over-45 prize with a 45.10.2mins clocking.
