Abi and Air Cadet Choir have bags of talent

A Spalding Air Cadet has been helping wow the judges of Britain’s Got Talent.

Abi Barks

Cadet Abi Barks (pictured) applied for the National Choir in late 2018 and after sending in an online audition she was awarded a place.

She attended several training camps with the choir and live concerts, such as a performance at Lincoln Drill Hall last August.

They auditioned for Britain’s Got Talent in January 2020 in front of Simon Cowell, Amanda Holden, Alesha Dixon, David Walliams, and over 2,000 audience members.

Playing a melody of Queen songs including Fat Bottomed Girls, Radio GaGa and We Will Rock You, the performance was described as ‘magic’ by Walliams and was given four yeses.

Cadet Barks (15) said: “I am very proud of being the only current member of the RAFAC National Choir from Lincolnshire.

“With a standing ovation from all four judges and the audience, it was an amazing experience.

“Not only did I get to meet Ant and Dec, but I also got to spend the day with Air Commodore Dawn McCafferty.

“I feel so privileged to have been selected to be part of the National Choir as well as taking part in BGT and standing on stage at the London Palladium performing with such an amazing group of people.”

Unfortunately, their astounding performance did not make the main show, but they did make it onto BGT: Unseen Acts, and the video is available on the BGT YouTube Channel.

The Officer Commanding, Flight Lieutenant Marc Fowler said: ”It was an immensely proud moment to see one of our cadets achieve such heights as making it on the Britain’s Got Talent show.

“Congratulations to Cadet Barks for such an achievement.

“We are all immensely proud of their collective achievements, and a massive congratulations for Cadet Abi Barks, from all of the 1406 staff.”
