A few surprises on the way to cup success

There were a few upsets in the preliminary round of the Knock-out Cup in the Spalding and District Snooker League.

High fliers Consti E, who are currently top of Division One, were beaten 5-0 by Division Two team Holbeach B.
Completing the whitewash were Barry Haynes (O7), Wayne Forbelets (O21), Charlie Mullane (R14), Neil Harvey (O7) and Pete Mullane (O21).
The closest frame was between Charlie Mullane and Sam Roberts (R21), who took it to a black ball.
Harvey made a 26 break during his win over Carl Rands (O14).
Division Three team Consti J pulled off a 4-1 win over Division One side Bourne SC C.
Neville Vickers (scr) was the only loser for Consti, going down to Jack Chilvers (O14).
Winners on the night were Trevor Braybrook (R7), Les Andrew (R7), Peter Orange (R21) and Stewart Davies (O7).
Division Two side Holbeach E must be happy with a 4-1 win over top division team Services A.
Mike Knight (O28) was the only winner for Services, pocketing a 38 break – the highest in the KO Cup so far – on his way to victory.
Winners for Holbeach E were Chris Back (O42), Stuart Sullivan (O35), Ben Harding (O28) and Phil Coaten (O21).
Top division team Pyramid A were knocked out 3-2 by Division Three players Donington B.
Victors on the night were Pete Burrell (scr) who beat Victor Rouse (scr), Gav Lewis (O7) over John Twell (O14) and Paul Stewart (R7) who saw off Norman Vaughan (O21).
Pyramid’s winners were Michael Twell (R7) and Dean Cole (O14).
Top of Division Two, Consti G were beaten by Division Three’s Gosberton C.
The match finished 3-2, with wins from Stuart Henderson (R7), Malc Dennis (R14) and Stuart Tamplin (scr) for Gosberton.
Joe Garland (scr) and Martin Deacon (O7) hit back in reply for Consti.
A Division Two clash between Holbeach F and Services D saw the spoils go to Services.
Wins from Ady Liquorish (R14), Jake Haslam (scr), Courtney Boulding (R14) and Mark Howlett (O14) saw the Spalding side through.
Susan Lefley (R21) was Holbeach’s only winner beating Tanya Peel (scr) on the black.
Services E started well with wins from Joel Shears (R7) and Kevin Robbs (R14) but eventually went down 3-2 to Bourne SC A.
A 24 break from Oliver Player (O35) helped him on the way to victory over Ian Smith (scr).
Other winners on the night were Ian Clare (scr) and Michael Byrne (R7).
Division One’s Sutton Bridge had a convincing 4-1 win over bottom of Division Three side Consti D.
Carl Parnell (O28), Mick Tiller (scr), Glenn Ryan (O21) and Wayne Howard (O21) took the first four frames to seal the victory, before Tom Digby (scr) snatched one back for Consti.
Consti C were the winners in a Division Three clash with Whittlesey B.
Consti’s Pat Bowman (R28) and Mick Peet (R28) took a frame each, with Pawel Skutela (R7) and Andy Skutela (R14) doing the same for Whittlesey.
It was left to Kevin Sweeney (R7) to take the final frame 47-39 from Kay Skutela (R21) to win the match.
pA rearranged fixture in Division One saw Holbeach D beat Bourne SC B 5-1.
Wins on the night came from Denis Hix (R7), Neil Harvey (O7), Don Monk (O7) and Ian Woodberry (scr), with Elliot Gaunt (O21) scoring the solitary point for Bourne. A 48 break helped him on the way.
Gosberton B saw off Donington D 5-1 in a Division Three rearranged match.
Gosberton winners were Nigel Goodwin (R21), Merv Patterson (R7), Warren Driver (R21) and Simon Slinger (R14).
Alan Stanley (scr) got the win for Donington.
