Work starts on moving Registration Office into council

Spalding Registration Office is set to close its doors in the next few months as work begins on creating its new premises at South Holland District Council.

Lincolnshire County Council says the service where you register births and deaths and can get married is hoping to relocate to Priory Road by December.

It’s moving from Bath Lane, opposite the River Welland.

Coun Nick Worth, executive councillor for registration services at Lincolnshire County Council, and deputy leader of South Holland District Council, said: “I’m delighted that we will be able to offer a more accessible experience for people registering births, deaths, marriages and partnerships in Spalding.

“It’s important that we continue to offer a personal and professional service during these key life events.

“By working together, there will be benefits to both councils in making the best use of buildings and resources, whilst listening to customer feedback to vastly improve the facilities on offer.”

Changes taking place within the council offices for the new registration office include creating a “ceremony” room and installing a 1.8m-high timber screen in the existing office garden for wedding photos.

A spokesman for Lincolnshire County Council said: “Work is beginning at South Holland District Council’s offices on Priory Road in Spalding, so the building can house the town’s registration service.

Following a successful planning application, the service will be moved from its current location on Bath Road as the lease comes to an end. It’s hoped that people will be able to use the new office from December, however customers will be advised on which venue to use when they book appointments in the coming months.”
