Pinchbeck pair’s platinum party

A West Pinchbeck couple who have regularly helped charities for decades have celebrated their platinum wedding anniversary.

Maurice (90) and Vera Chappell (91) of Glenside South have lived in the village all their lives and were married is St Bartholomew’s Church on July 23, 1949.

Throughout the past 53 years since their youngest daughter Claire was born with Downs Syndrome they have been active members of Mencap, Maurice receiving the MBE in 2015 for services to people with learning disabilities.

Although now retired they both still help out each Friday night at the Spalding Gateway, a club for people with learning disabilities.

They have three other children, twins Rosalind and Nadeen and a son Adrian as well as grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Son Adrian said: “A party was held at our home and all available family members joined in the celebration.”
