A 26-year-old man from the Spalding area is in a stable condition after a road crash that killed three people in Peterborough in the early hours of Sunday.
Cambridgeshire Police say the man, who has not formally been named, was driving a Ford Ranger the wrong way down a slip road at Fletton Parkway when involved in a head-on collision with another vehicle shortly after midnight.
All three occupants of the other car, a Renault Megane, died.
They’ve been named as engaged couple and parents of two, Marko Makula (22) and Jana Koockova (21), and Jana’s brother Tomas Kocko (19), all from Peterborough.
After the incident the 26-year-old was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving and driving while under the influence of drink and/or drugs.
He was taken to Addenbrooke’s Hospital in Cambridge, initially in a critical condition.
A police spokesman on Tuesday confirmed to The Voice that his condition had improved to stable and he had been “de-arrested” pending further police investigations.
A Go Fund Me page has been set up to help the victim’s families.
The creator of the page, Gabrielle James, who states she created the page on behalf of Marko’s brother Mario Makula: said the incident “has orphaned two young children, and left families and friends heartbroken”.
She continued that the victims “were loved by many and are missed sorely”.
