Individual errors costly as depleted Holbeach United are beaten by late goals

Boss Danny Hussey bemoaned two more individual errors as his Holbeach United side slipped to a 2-0 home defeat against Rugby Town on Saturday.

Two late goals from Charlie Evans (77 and 88) at Carter’s Park sentenced the Tigers to their fifth defeat in their last six games and stretched their winless run beyond a month.

Hussey was impressed with how his side performed on what was a very difficult surface and felt a draw would have been the right result against third-placed Rugby.

However, he had to name himself on the bench due to a lack of options, something that didn’t impress the veteran defender.

He said: “It was a good performance. It was similar to the Daventry defeat, there was lots of endeavour and effort from the lads.

“The pitch was very tricky and I felt a draw was the least we deserved.

“However, two more individual errors cost us. We seem to always get punished, while other sides don’t offer us the same opportunities.

“I’m gutted for the lads, they deserved much better.

“It wasn’t ideal that I had to name myself on the bench, either.

“It was a shame that a few of the Reserve team players didn’t fancy having a game for the first team, especially as a few were there to watch.

“With Will Bird out, Josh Ford banned and Tom Smith injured in the warm up, we just didn’t have any options to change the game on the day.”

Tigers: Drury, Harker, Avis, Braithwaite, Clay, Jackson, Lockie, Tinkler, Tricks, Davies, B Smith. Subs: Hamilton, Hussey.
